Chapter 62: The Fox Takes Advantage Of The Tiger's Might. [64]

Summary

The courtyard of Wangzhuang Primary School is now a construction site for a welfare center, with a botanical garden nearby. Yue Chen admires the efficiency of Shen Li Dan and Guan Lao Si while walking with his injured dog, Da Huang. He receives a call from Cao Hang Chang about Meng Jun's father, reducing the threat from Meng Jun. Yue Chen reflects on his missing friend, Dai Er, and his unsuccessful search for her relatives. At noon, he notices reporters and officials at the construction site, including Deputy Director Wang, who boasts about the welfare center. Among the crowd, Yue Chen sees a little girl, Ruan Xiao Wan, who is distressed about her disabled brother and their caretaker, Aunt Li, who has dementia. A civil affairs worker dismisses her pleas to enter the welfare center, causing her to cry. Feeling sympathy, Yue Chen approaches her, offering comfort and a handkerchief. He learns about her situation and admires her kindness in caring for Aunt Li and her brother despite their hardships. He reassures her that once the welfare center is completed, they can come there, which brings her a glimmer of hope.
