Chapter 612: Lv Meng's Heart Attack, Cheng Yu's Reinforcement . [610]
Summary
The chapter summarizes a conflict between the Eastern Wu and Wei armies over the land and grain distribution policies. Lv Meng, a leader in Eastern Wu, tries to persuade the common people to support Eastern Wu by promising a more equitable 50-50 split of the grain harvest, in contrast to Wei's 7-3 split that heavily favors the officials. Lv Meng also assures the people that Eastern Wu will not harm their relatives serving as soldiers in the city. Meanwhile, Cheng Yu, a Wei commander, suspects that Eastern Wu has colluded with the Shu forces, and quickly retreats his troops to defend Shou Chun against Eastern Wu's attack. The chapter highlights the struggles of the common people caught between the competing powers, and the political maneuvering of the military leaders.Full content
