Summary

Li Yan Qing returns home to find that the arrangements for a young girl, referred to as the magpie, have been completed. Despite her father's decision to sell her, she expresses concern about not serving Li Yan Qing well. As they interact, she reveals her troubled home life, including her father's abuse and her brother's bullying. Li Yan Qing reassures her, suggesting she shouldn't worry about serving him so diligently. He focuses on his studies for the upcoming finals while the magpie shows eagerness to improve her service. Later, in the middle of the night, Li Yan Qing finds the magpie in the guest hall after she accidentally knocks over a basket of radishes while trying to stay awake. She expresses her desire to serve him well. The next morning, Li Yan Qing prepares to visit the county city with friends, where they enjoy lamb buns and shop for gifts, including a set of the Four Treasures of the Study for their master. Li Yan Qing also submits his final manuscript to a bookstore, concluding a five-year contract. The manager informs him of the bookstore's success, and Li Yan Qing feels relieved after receiving his payment. As they leave, Wang Gui realizes they forgot the lamb buns meant for their master, prompting a hasty return to the bookstore.
