Summary

The Jurchen army, led by Hu Zong Xiu, launched a surprise attack on the Wu Dynasty army, but they were met with a solid defense and suffered heavy losses. Hu Zong Xiu was killed in the battle, and the Jurchen cavalry retreated. The Wu Dynasty army, led by Qin Shao Qian, pursued the Jurchen cavalry and then turned their attention to the Moutuo Ridge camp, where the Jurchen infantry was stationed. The Jurchen infantry, led by Pu Lu, attempted to defend the camp but were ordered by Shuliesu to hold their ground and not allow the Wu Dynasty army to enter. The Wu Dynasty army halted outside the range of arrows, awaiting the infantry to catch up, with the intention of raiding the camp.
