Summary

Li Yan Qing learns from Sun Da Ya about an imperial decree promising rewards for defeating Liao troops and recapturing Yanjing. He reflects on the implications for Tong Guan and his past expenditures. After organizing books for his wife, Cao Yun, he receives news from the Ministry of War appointing him as Commander of the Right Army of the Northern Expeditionary Force. Excited, he visits the Baoyanzhai where he reunites with Wang Gui, who has returned from a difficult campaign with scars from battle.
