Chapter 58: Wits and Courage. [61]

Summary

Liang Shi Dou, the leader of the Kaneyama Palace's three divisions, faced a significant loss after an unexpected rebellion from a group of merchants, resulting in many casualties among his men. Determined to retaliate, he planned a surprise attack under the cover of night. As he approached the merchants' position, he discovered a lack of defenses at the southern entrance, leading him to believe it was a trap. When his cavalry charged in, they fell victim to hidden tripwires and a sudden counterattack from the merchants, led by Zhang Xuan and Cheng Yaojin. The merchants, encouraged by Zhang Xuan, formed a spear formation to defend themselves, while Liang Shi Dou, realizing his precarious situation, prepared for a final assault. As the night wore on, both sides braced for the impending confrontation, with the merchants fueled by hope and determination to survive.
