Summary

Zhang Xuan, once a mid-level general, is now a powerful lord, prompting the Wang family to reconsider his marriage proposal to their daughter, Zhi Zhi. Wang is furious that the marriage is being revived, especially as Zhi Zhi is to be a secondary wife. Meanwhile, Zhi Zhi, now 17 and beautiful, has been isolated in the Pei estate, where her father intends to marry her off to Feng Jun, whom she does not like. Zhi Zhi dreams of escaping the Pei estate and is thrilled when she learns of the renewed proposal to Zhang Xuan, despite the secondary wife status. Her father supports the match, although her mother opposes it. Zhi Zhi expresses her willingness to marry Zhang Xuan, leading to plans for her departure to her elder brother's home for the marriage arrangement. Pei Xuan Qi, her father, worries about the political nature of the marriage and its implications for Zhi Zhi's happiness.
