Summary

Hebei Xiong County has been captured by the Liao military, leaving the Song army, consisting of 60,000 troops, in a standoff due to a lack of siege equipment. Commander Liu Yan Qing argues with an officer over the readiness for battle and the urgent need for supplies, ultimately deciding to retreat as food supplies dwindle. Meanwhile, Liao commander Ye Lu Da Shi observes the Song army's retreat and plans a surprise attack on Ping Ying Valley, a strategic supply route for the Song. Liao forces, using newly replicated explosive devices, successfully breach the defenses of Ping Ying Valley and charge into the city. Ye Lu Da Shi then commands a full pursuit of the retreating Song army, leading to a significant defeat for them. The news of the Song's losses causes panic in the capital, prompting Emperor Zhao Ji to order a retreat.
