Summary

On the night of August 4th, Shi Jin and his companions returned to Xinzhou, crossing a mountain pass where Jurchen troops were stationed. By dawn on the 5th, they entered Xinzhou just before the North Gate closed, amidst chaos caused by the Jurchen army's advance. Confusion reigned among the civilians, with many refugees flooding the city, leading to fights and disorder. The military focused on defense, requisitioning houses and stockpiling supplies. Shi Jin and his companions joined the labor force to strengthen defenses as the Jurchen army gathered outside, capturing civilians and causing despair. Wu Cheng, a farmer, was among the captives, having lost his family to the Yisheng army. As he was dragged toward Xinzhou, he struggled with pain and confusion, ultimately meeting a tragic end as chaos erupted around him.
