Summary

Da Mao sits at its tombstone, smoking, while the narrator observes their parents discussing impending disaster and the father's commitment to help his son, Shen Lian. The mother predicts a catastrophe only the father can avert, hinting at a great sacrifice. Da Mao, the local Immortal, reveals it can only oversee the Mystic Realm and suggests that Shen should take its place to avoid catastrophe. Da Mao changes its mind about keeping Shen and pushes him through a mysterious door, leading him to the Buddha Hall where guards are looking for him.
