Chapter 569: Searching for Loopholes. [573]
Summary
In the guest hall, Li Yuan faces a direct threat from Kang Qiaoli, who implies that if Li Yuan does not accept Turkic conditions, the Turks will support Liu Wuzhou against him. Li Yuan proposes that trading war horses is the first step to establish cooperation, asserting his firm stance. Kang Qiaoli, recognizing Li Yuan's strength, agrees to report back to the Khan. After Kang leaves, Li Yuan expresses his displeasure to Liu Wenjing about not being informed of Kang's visit. Liu Wenjing shares news of a trap at Wang Wei's father's birthday banquet. Li Yuan discusses Kang's intentions with Pei Ji, who notes that the Turks are currently in internal strife and likely won't make excessive demands. Liu Wenjing suggests using the situation in Mayi County, where Liu Wuzhou has rebelled, as an opportunity for Li Yuan to seize military power. News of Liu Wuzhou's rebellion prompts Li Yuan to prepare for military action. Meanwhile, Wang Wei and Gao Junya plot against Li Yuan, planning to take action during the Jin Shrine Grand Ceremony. Li Yuan suspects a move against him and instructs his son, Li Shimin, to keep watch on Gao Junya's elite soldiers. Li Shimin identifies Tian De Ping as a likely leader of the elite troops and plans to exploit his weaknesses. The chapter ends with Tian De Ping entering a tavern, where he is about to encounter a significant event.Full content
