Chapter 56: Eternal Life. [125]
Summary
An Lushan, intrigued by a method of eternal life found in a grave, hesitated over the painful procedure required. He castrated his attendant, Li Zhu’er, to test the method, which initially appeared successful as Li Zhu’er showed no signs of aging. However, An Lushan's health deteriorated, leading to paranoia and violence against those close to him. Eventually, Li Zhu’er escaped after An Lushan's son incited him. Over time, Li Zhu’er began to age, realizing the immortality technique was flawed. The tale of Peng Zu and his sons, who sought true immortality yet ultimately perished, underscores the futility of their quest and the complexities of the pursuit of eternal life.Full content
