Chapter 52: Isolated [51]

Summary

Zhu Fu Gui was severely beaten, leading to a shift in how the farm workers viewed Shen Jia Xing and his group, now seen as desperate outlaws. Although the workers became more polite, they also isolated Shen Jia Xing and Shen Jiao, teaching their children to avoid them. Shen Jiao, indifferent to the children's disdain, focused on her secret treasure bowl and spent time with Ma Xing Hua and her brother. As winter approached, Shen Jiao frequently went up the mountain for firewood. During dinner, Zhao Si announced plans to gather wood the next day, prompting Shen Jiao to prepare a hearty breakfast of mixed grain pancakes, which everyone enjoyed despite Qian Wen Liang's initial restraint. Shen Jia Xing covered the costs of their meals, leading to a compromise on living expenses. The group set off for the back mountain, with Shen Jiao insisting on joining despite her grandfather's concerns. The older men in the group appeared weak, while the younger ones struggled but were grateful for the Shen family's support, especially the nutritious meals that revitalized them.
