Summary

Di Yong and Wang Shao return to the Western Capital, transformed by their experiences. Di Yong, now more mature and confident, no longer sees himself as just the second son of Di Qing. Wang Shao, despite missing the imperial examination, has gained valuable insights into the Hehuang region and its conflicts. They seek out Wang Ning An, who welcomes them warmly and asks for details about their journey. Their tale begins with their travels to Qing Tang, where they encountered Kusa Luo, a formidable leader who had allied with the Great Song against the Xixia. Kusa Luo, aging and seeking a successor, favored his intelligent third son, Dong Zhan, over his elder sons, which could lead to chaos. Wang Shao reveals they have contacted Kusa Luo's eldest son, Xia Zhan, who, feeling neglected, hopes to gain power through trade. Xia Zhan is appointed to handle trade with the Great Song, but Dong Zhan schemes to undermine him by sending a cunning advisor, Bo Han. Wang Shao uncovers the Cui family's plot to seize power, leading to a plan to bait Dong Zhan into conflict with his elder brother, Blind Zhan. This results in a fierce battle, with Wang Shao and Di Yong supporting Blind Zhan. Ultimately, Dong Zhan defeats Blind Zhan and captures him, while Blind Zhan's son, Mu Zheng, escapes and seeks refuge with Wang Shao and his allies. Despite heavy losses, they capture Mu Zheng, positioning themselves to strike at Aoi Tang.
