Summary

Nightfall envelops the Eternal Alley, the imperial harem of the Han dynasty, consisting of numerous palaces surrounding the emperor's quarters. Liu Che, the current emperor, reflects on the past, particularly the fate of Qi Fu Ren, who was transformed into a human pig, leading to the Cold Palace's abandonment. As he interacts with Wang Dao, a eunuch, Liu Che contemplates the role of eunuchs in a strong imperial power. He then visits Xia Fu Ren, a Xiongnu consort, who has adapted to Han culture. Despite the emperor's preference for natural beauty, Xia Yanzhi uses extravagant clothing to attract his favor.
