Chapter 500: Orthodoxy. [512]

Summary

Liu Che, after a military parade, performed rituals at the Temple of the Five Emperors in Yong County, which comprises five separate temples dedicated to various deities. Historically, Yong County was rich in temples, including those for the Sun, Moon, and historical figures. Liu Bang, the Han dynasty's founding emperor, controversially added a shrine for the Hei Di, conflicting with the Qin's White Emperor. Liu Che, aware of the implications of these actions, sought to maintain the Han dynasty's water virtue, opposing the rise of landlords and bureaucrats. During a sacrificial ceremony at the Hei Di Temple, he rejected the need for auspicious omens, emphasizing the importance of practical governance over mystical beliefs.
