Summary

He Shan Guang, the magistrate of Chang'an, announces to death row inmates that they have been granted a one-year reprieve to return home and fulfill their wishes before facing execution. The prisoners, initially shocked, erupt in joy and gratitude towards the Emperor, expressing their emotions through tears and cheers. As they rush out of their cells, Li Yu feels lost and out of place in the bustling city of Chang'an, unlike his fellow inmates who eagerly return to their families. He reflects on his unfamiliarity with the outside world, feeling like a misplaced piece in a game of Go. Meanwhile, two Daoist scholars notice him, sparking curiosity in one of them about Li Yu's unique appearance.
