Transmigration in the 70s: Taking the Courtyard to the Countryside as a Young Educator

Chapter 5: Preparing Supplies [4]

Summary

Best Wishes visits a small supply and marketing cooperative that evokes nostalgia. She purchases various items, including White Rabbit candy, egg cake, rice noodles, gloves, snowflake cream, cloth shoes, a green army water bottle, and a vintage mattress, marveling at the low prices. After her shopping, she goes to the youth office to sign up for a trip to the countryside, eager to leave her current surroundings. She learns that the earliest group departs in five days and expresses her desire to join. A helpful aunt advises her to prepare warm clothing for the cold climate of De Guoqu. Back home, Best Wishes searches for cotton to make blankets and warm clothes, finding only a few cotton blankets. She recalls a quilt made by her mother but hesitates to dismantle it. Instead, she decides to plant cotton in the courtyard, believing it could provide a continuous supply in the future. After uprooting some ornamental trees, she prepares the soil for planting and plans to buy cotton seeds the next day. She finishes her day with a meal at a nearby restaurant.
