Chapter 490: Intensification of Contradictions. [494]

Summary

A cavalry unit arrives at Lingchang County to discuss urgent military matters with His Highness Xun Wang. The Sui army, led by Yang Qing, has been besieging the Wagang army for nearly a year, but Yang Qing secretly supports the Wagang by selling grain. Tensions rise when Zhang Xutuo captures a grain convoy belonging to Yang Qing, leading to a conflict between the two commanders. Yang Qing, fearing exposure of his dealings, sends his son Yang Wen to negotiate with Zhang Xutuo, offering grain in exchange for the release of captured workers. Meanwhile, Zhang Xutuo, struggling with food shortages due to a locust plague, discovers Yang Qing's betrayal and plans to report him to the Emperor. When Yang Wen approaches Zhang Xutuo to clarify the situation, he is met with hostility and refuses to release the grain, asserting that Yang Qing's actions are treasonous.
