Chapter 470: In the Midst of Laughter, Five Hundred Temples Turn to Ashes!. [470]

Summary

In Lin'an City, a sudden disaster befalls the revered Buddhist temples and statues, which, once magnificent and awe-inspiring, are reduced to decaying remnants. Du Yu's poetry causes the golden statues to lose their radiance, revealing their true, dilapidated forms, leading to a crisis of faith among the believers. The once-thriving Buddhist community suffers a catastrophic collapse, with towering statues crashing down, disrupting religious assemblies and leaving monks in despair. Fa Hai, the chief monk, witnesses the destruction of Buddhism's stronghold and vows revenge against Du Yu, who, backed by the Wenyuan Pavilion, claims the Buddhist sect provoked divine wrath. This moment marks a significant downfall for Buddhism in the Great Song Dynasty, as the once-powerful temples are left in ruins, and the faith of the people swiftly dissipates.
