Chapter 457: Power Goes to the Countryside [457]

Summary

Pang Ji expresses concern over the people's resistance to Xixia's Aoi salt, fearing the consequences of opposing Zhao Zhen's decree. He recognizes that the local populace's hatred towards Xixia is rooted in historical conflict. Zhao Zhen, however, seeks solutions to the unrest. Wen Yan Bo suggests sending capable officials to enforce policies, while Wang Ning An proposes a barter system of exchanging grain for salt to win the people's support. Sima Guang, tasked with managing the salt-for-grain trade, learns to communicate effectively with the common people, adapting his approach and ultimately distributing over 100,000 stones of blue salt, leading to a significant drop in salt prices.
