Generals of the Great Song Dynasty.

Chapter 453: Accidentally Became a Treacherous Official. [453]

Summary

Sima Guang reflects on his past actions while holding a precious luminous cup, realizing his reckless decisions during his mission to Western Xia. He recalls his successful diplomacy that led to peace but acknowledges the looming crisis in Western Xia, particularly with the young emperor Li Liang Zuo. Upon returning to Luo Yang, he experiences a stark contrast in how he is treated, now viewed as a savior. Sima Guang seeks to visit Pang Ji, who had previously blacklisted him. Despite his efforts to gain entry, Pang Ji accuses him of betraying their ancestors by allowing the Western Xia to enter the Song Dynasty. Sima Guang defends his actions, claiming they were based on imperial decrees, but Pang Ji remains disappointed, blaming him for harming the Song's salt merchants. As salt prices plummet, Sima Guang faces public outrage, with accusations of collusion against Western Xia. The blame shifts to him and his associates, leading to their collective vilification as "the three bandits." Sima Guang, unable to bear the hostility, attempts to flee but is captured and taken away in a carriage by a mysterious old man.
