Summary

The chapter takes place in the literary hall of the Cao residence, where a lively event called the literary market is happening. This event allows young men and women to interact and test their knowledge through answering questions. Li Yan Qing, a top scholar, is introduced to the market by Cao Xing, who encourages him to participate. Li Yan Qing answers a couplet challenge for Yun Niang, a book-loving girl in the family, and writes two couplets, one of which he feels uneasy about since he had used it before. After placing his answers in the box, Cao Xing rushes back into the hall to steal the box, causing chaos among the participants. The chapter also describes the vastness of the Cao residence and introduces various family members, including Cao Xing's sisters, who are engaged in their own activities. Cao Xing expresses interest in introducing his sister Cao Yun to Li Yan Qing, but doubts whether it will lead anywhere.
