Summary

Du Fuwei receives a letter from the Huang family, informing him that there are only 2,000 Sui army soldiers at the dock. He plans to destroy the Sui army's warships and then crush their main force in the hills of Liuhe. Meanwhile, Mouse Boy, a little dwarf and a performer raised by the Huang family, is caught by the Sui army while trying to deliver a message to Du Fuwei. Under torture, Mouse Boy reveals that he was going to see Du Fuwei and that Du Fuwei wants to contact General Qi. Zhang Xuan, the Sui army general, orders Mouse Boy to testify against Huang You, the head of the Huang family, in exchange for sparing his life. Zhang Xuan then prepares his troops to depart, expecting Du Fuwei to attack at the third watch. He also sends scouts to inform General Wei Chi, who is guarding the ships at the dock, to prepare for a potential raid. Finally, Zhang Xuan learns from a former military officer, Ren Shitu, that Du Fuwei's scout commander is Qi Liang, who commands over a hundred scout boats on the Yangtze River.
