Chapter 425: Gu Xi Zhi Sends Red Envelopes [424]

Summary

Gu Xi Zhi was shocked to hear from Grandpa Wen that she had a fiancé, Wen Nuo, whom she had never met before. Her father, Gu Jiang Yuan, intervened, stating that the marriage agreement made by the two old men in their youth was nullified after his second son's engagement with Grandpa Wen's daughter was canceled. Gu Jiang Yuan emphasized that their children would have the freedom to love and marry whoever they chose. Gu Xi Zhi thought that the engagement was just a casual verbal agreement and wondered if Grandpa Wen took it seriously. She examined Wen Nuo and found him handsome but not upright, with a questionable character. Gu Jiang Yuan also opposed the marriage, considering Wen Nuo to be a flirtatious and unsuitable match for Gu Xi Zhi. Grandpa Wen, however, was determined to settle the marriage, citing Wen Nuo's popularity among girls and his excellent qualities. He believed that a man a few years older would be more caring and that the marriage would be beneficial for both families. Gu Xi Zhi, however, made her stance clear by sending a red packet to Grandpa Wen, which he misinterpreted as a sign of her affection for Wen Nuo. In reality, Grandpa Wen had been keeping an eye on Gu Xi Zhi's remarkable abilities and achievements, and he wanted her to be his granddaughter-in-law. He envisioned living with her and enjoying her cooking, which he believed would improve his health. Despite Gu Xi Zhi's clear disinterest, Grandpa Wen remained determined to make the marriage happen.
