Chapter 416: The Flexible and Resilient Zhang Derong. [414]
Summary
. Hao Zhao contemplates surrendering as he feels disillusioned with Cao Cao, especially after learning that Cao Cao has left Liangzhou vulnerable. He witnesses the suffering of the people and hopes for the Han army's return to provide them a chance for a new life. Despite Zhang Ji's initial reluctance to surrender, he is drawn into camaraderie with Liu Bei’s forces, particularly through Zhang Fei’s brash encouragement to curse Cao Cao. At a celebratory banquet, Zhang Ji is surprised by the warmth of Liu Bei’s group and contemplates his situation. Hao Zhao suggests that bringing Zhang Ji's family to Liangzhou could turn him into an ally. Zhang Ji ultimately expresses concerns about the stability of the Han Dynasty and the issues of corrupt officials, arguing that unless the root problems are addressed, any regime change will be futile. Liu Mang acknowledges Zhang Ji’s insights and clarifies his intent to establish a better regime than what the Han currently represents. .Full content
