Summary

In this narrative, Tripitaka and his disciples are captured by monks Guang Mou and Guang Zhi. Elder Jin Chi Chang retrieves his treasured brocade robe, nine-ringed staff, and purple gold bowl. Later, Chu Yun, a cunning character, tricks the elder into giving him half of his wealth by promising to reveal the robe's secret. He claims the robe was bestowed by Guanyin Bodhisattva for seeking scriptures and becoming a Buddha. After Chu Yun's departure, Ling Xuzi, a resurrected green snake, emerges from the shadows, intrigued by the possibility of immortality and Buddhahood.
