Summary

In the narrative, Xiao He Shang and Huang Ran discuss the ominous Lian Yin Ring and Yin Corpse Ring, formations tied to a historical incident during the Song-Liao war. Huang Ran recounts how a general's death led to his vengeful spirit wreaking havoc. A Dao Shi devised a sinister plan involving twelve death row inmates to trap the spirit, resulting in his demise during the ritual. Despite success, the knowledge of the formation faded due to its dark origins. Later, the characters prepare for a journey to the countryside, where they must investigate a potentially dangerous situation, amid heightened security due to an impending investigation by the Public Security Bureau.
