Chapter 41: A Desire to Go Fishing [40]
Summary
Zhu Yuan bids farewell to Hu Zi and goes to gather pig feed, only to find a new scorekeeper, a tall boy she doesn't recognize, as Cui Hua has been removed from her position. Zhu Yuan learns that Cui Hua's father has been sent to a farm for reform, leaving Cui Hua upset about losing her scorekeeper role. While walking home, Zhu Yuan overhears Cui Hua crying and discussing her misfortunes with a boy named Zhang Chen, who is revealed to be a teacher close to Cui Hua. Their conversation reveals Cui Hua's feelings for Zhang Chen, despite his insistence that they have no romantic relationship. After they leave, Zhu Yuan reflects on her childhood memories by a river, which reminds her of her family's past and her grandmother. She collects stones and snails while considering fishing, planning to discuss it with her friends later. As the day ends, Zhu Yuan prepares for dinner but waits for her friends to return.Full content
