Chapter 40: Mian Jun's Aspirations. [43]
Summary
Zhang Xuan's willingness to take the blame for Luo Shi Xin stuns everyone, including the Emperor, who questions the situation. Zhang Xuan passionately defends Luo Shi Xin, emphasizing his contributions to the Great Sui, which prompts Zhang Xu Tuo and his subordinates to plead for leniency. The Emperor decides to handle the matter lightly, acknowledging Luo Shi Xin's merits. After the Emperor leaves, Zhang Xuan expresses his desire to join the Flying Eagle Army, while Yang Tan, the Emperor's grandson, admires Zhang Xuan's insights. Yang Guang, initially angry, becomes curious about Zhang Xuan's thoughts on the Great Sui's issues. Zhang Xuan outlines three major flaws: the entrenched aristocratic system, the division between the North and South, and a third point he hesitates to disclose. Yang Guang encourages him to continue, intrigued by his perspective.Full content
