Summary

In a snowy night, a five-year-old girl questions why she is the one to be sent away, feeling warmth amidst the cold. Growing up in poverty in a fishing village, she is eventually sold to a brothel, where she faces hardships but also gains respect and education. As she matures, she earns money and decides to visit her family, only to find her parents deceased and her sister married to a wealthy family. Embracing her new life, she becomes successful in the brothel, yet yearns for connection, especially with a fellow courtesan, Nie Yun Zhu. Despite her pragmatic approach to life, she grapples with her past and the pain of her childhood, ultimately finding happiness and companionship with Yun Zhu and a mysterious man, while reflecting on her journey and the little girl she once was.
