Chapter 39: "The Maide of White Bones and the Pursuit in Desperation" [38]

Summary

A spherical object thrown by a character explodes, releasing thick smoke that clears to reveal a bottomless pit and a pool of blood, with the young man and the one-armed warrior missing. The skeletal girl, controlled by Dong Fang Shang Can, jumps into the pit, which leads to a tunnel likely created by a skill. As she pursues, she triggers a trap that severely injures her. Despite her injuries, Dong Fang Shang Can, who has a background in slaying demons, is not worried about her recovery due to her Blood Demon abilities. He reflects on his experiences with different types of demons and his growth in strength. After the chaos, Tanjirou Kamado introduces himself to Dong Fang Shang Can, and they discuss the assessment's outcome. Dong Fang Shang Can tends to two injured assessors, and Butterfly Shinobu and Himejima Gyomei arrive to assist. Ultimately, surviving examinees, including Dong Fang Shang Can and Tanjirou, pass the assessment. Dong Fang Shang Can learns of the death of Snake Hashira Yihei Kobane, which deeply affects him. He contemplates using a talent card to enhance his swordsmanship but decides to save it for a more critical time. After saying goodbye to his mentors, he receives a disaster-repelling mask from Urokodaki Sakonji, which has a complicated history but is given with good intentions.
