Summary

The chapter describes the aftermath of the Liao Kingdom's attack on the Song Dynasty. The Song court allocates resources towards military expansion, much to the dismay of civil officials. Zhao Zhen sends the experienced diplomat Ou Yang Xiu to negotiate with the Liao Kingdom. Ou Yang Xiu is tasked with ensuring the terms of peace are not too harsh on the Song. Meanwhile, Zhang Dun vows to retrieve the remains of his friend Ji Fu, who died in the conflict. In the Liao Kingdom, Lv Hui Qing is summoned by the prominent figures of the sixteen prefectures of Yanyun, hinting at further developments in the relationship between the two kingdoms.
