Summary

Despite the initial joy in Bianjing following Tong Guan's report of victory, the truth of a disastrous defeat on the western front remained concealed. Li Da Qi, a prominent merchant, was preoccupied with concerns for his son, Li Yan Qing, who had been promoted to military intelligence and sent to the front lines against Western Xia. Li Da Qi's worries deepened when he learned of the complete destruction of Tong Guan's forces, with only a few thousand troops surviving. In a state of anxiety, he sought out Liang Shi Cheng to gather more information about his son's safety, only to find that Liang was unavailable. Liang's adopted son, Liang Song, feigned concern while secretly relishing Li Yan Qing's perilous situation.
