Summary

The chapter describes the sudden emergence of the Bohai Kingdom, which delivered a surprise attack on the Liao Kingdom. The Liao ruler was gravely ill, and the crown prince Ye Lu Hong Ji was about to ascend the throne. The Liao ministers were unaware of the Bohai Kingdom's existence until the Song envoy Zheng Xie mentioned it. Zheng Xie was left dumbfounded, as he had not believed in the existence of Bohai. The deputy envoy Liu Lin Sen was pleased with Bohai's attack on the Liao, as the Song intended to support Bohai against the Liao. The Bohai troops carried out a large-scale massacre during the Liao enthronement ceremony, which left the Cheng brothers dumbfounded. Wang Ning'an, the ruler of Bohai, declared that the kingdom was built on the hatred of the Liao and the blood of its people, and that they would continue to send more Qidan people to hell.
