Chapter 348: Battle of the Phoenix Ceremony. [351]

Summary

The chapter takes place in the Fengyi Hall, where Emperor Yang Guang convenes a meeting with high-ranking officials to discuss the eradication of the Wagang Army. General Yun Ding Xing and Minister of War Wei Xuan argue over who should lead the troops, with Yun Ding Xing suggesting that Xun Wang Yang Qing, who is responsible for the Wagang Army's rise, should lead the army to eliminate them. Wei Xuan disagrees, citing Yang Qing's lack of military experience and advanced age. Emperor Yang Guang intervenes, suggesting that they should unite and share the burden for the Sui Dynasty. Pei Ju proposes a dual approach, with Xun Wang leading the charge and additional troops being dispatched to assist. Yu Wen Shu suggests supplementing the eastern route with an additional army, led by Pei Ren Ji, which would create a triangular offensive. However, Pei Ju is opposed to this idea, and Yu Wen Shu's true intention is to draw Pei Ren Ji's troops away and leave Zhang Xuan to face the bandits in Langya County alone. Emperor Yang Guang decides to adopt Yu Wen Shu's plan, despite opposition from Pei Ju and others.
