Summary

In a village with poor living conditions, Ning Qiushui and his companions investigate the absence of a lunch lady named Mi Lan, who is reportedly unwell. Upon reaching her home, they encounter her husband, who initially denies her presence. However, after a tense exchange, they are allowed to see Mi Lan, who is feverish and frightened. Ning Qiushui questions her about a haunted house, the ruins of Yan Yu Temple, which causes her to tremble in fear. The situation escalates when Ning Qiushui reveals a memorial tablet, leading the husband to panic and plead for mercy, indicating a deeper, unsettling mystery surrounding the village and its residents.
