Summary

Shen Jiaxing heads off to work while Han Qixiu returns home, feeling refreshed. Han Qixiu serves Shen Jiao porridge and they discuss plans to visit the City God Temple to watch shadow plays. Han Qixiu's thoughts reveal his past struggles with violence and his reliance on a military doctor to manage his condition. However, since meeting Shen Jiao, he has not visited the doctor and feels a sense of calm and control. Han Qixiu discovers Shen Xiu, who has been drugged with a sleeping potion, and tells Shen Jiao that she won't live much longer. Shen Jiao feels secure with Han Qixiu by her side. They visit the City God Temple, where Shen Jiao watches shadow plays, including the story of Sun Wukong battling the White Bone Spirit. Han Qixiu pays the vendor to perform all his shows. After the performances, Shen Jiao buys a bowl of sweet osmanthus sugar congee for the old man, who is touched by her kindness. The old man praises Shen Jiao's beauty and kindness, saying she will find her ideal husband in the future. Han Qixiu feels a surge of possessiveness, wanting to claim Shen Jiao as his own.
