Chapter 323: Midnight Ambush (Part 2). [330]
Summary
A sudden skirmish erupted at the edge of the dark desert, catching everyone off guard. Despite the unknown enemy situation, Jiang Quan ordered his troops to extinguish their torches and fires, and to shrink their defensive perimeter, opting to wait and observe. The enemy soldiers had underestimated the Tang army's defenses and suffered some losses. Li Su and Yan had a conversation in the darkness, where Yan revealed that the enemy leader spoke in the Turkic language, a dialect from a tribe near the northern border of the Tang dynasty's Tingzhou. Li Su's eyes widened in surprise, and he wondered why the Turks were appearing there. The two sides were stuck in a stalemate, and Li Su began to formulate a plan to break through the enemy's defenses and launch a counterattack. He approached Jiang Quan and suggested using a flare to make the enemy's side appear first. Jiang Quan was overjoyed and immediately gave the order to prepare the troops to charge.Full content
