Summary

In the Empire, the Rong tribe is feared for its brutality, not only towards others but also their own. The tribes of the northwestern grasslands engage in constant skirmishes, valuing strength above all. Cheng Dalei, having gained a fearsome reputation after killing the Grassland King, commands respect rather than hostility from the surrounding tribes. He negotiates the release of a captured Rong tribesman, Lv Hong, and successfully trades for goods without inciting conflict. A silver-eyed girl, a mute and the daughter of a foreigner, is offered to him as a gift. Cheng Dalei names her Silver Eyes and frees her from her chains, promising to take care of her. They then set off with Black Rock and Lv Hong, navigating through the mountains towards a canyon where a destroyed bridge marks an unusable road.
