Chapter 304: Fame Resounds Throughout the World. [311]
Summary
Cheng Yaojin visited Li Su in prison, where Li Su was being treated well with wine and meat. However, the wine was infested with bacteria, and after drinking it, Cheng Yaojin criticized its quality. Li Su was relieved that Cheng Yaojin was praising him, but he soon realized that the old man was actually being sarcastic. Cheng Yaojin then talked about Li Su's poem, "Ode to the Afang Palace", which had moved the entire court to tears. He also mentioned that he had forced Kong Ying Da, the principal of the Imperial Academy, to drink and confess his thoughts about the poem. Li Su was shocked by Cheng Yaojin's behavior, but he also felt a sense of admiration for the old man. Cheng Yaojin then told Li Su that his poem had been widely spread and was being recited by scholars and laborers. Li Su was worried about how the emperor would deal with him, but Cheng Yaojin just smiled and teased him about being scared. Li Su confessed that he was driven by a sense of justice, but also admitted that his sense of justice was not strong and that he was only trying to protect his family and elders.Full content
