Summary

Li Yan Qing, in charge of the cavalry, realizes he has fallen into a trap set by the Western Xia cavalry, which has cut off his escape route. After a brief encounter with a soldier from his unit, he learns that reinforcements are being sought at Wu Long Zhai. As he and his remaining men regroup on a hill, they discover they are heavily outnumbered by the Western Xia forces. With only twelve men left, including himself and Wang Gui, they strategize to hold out until reinforcements arrive, which may take until the next day. Li Yan Qing, a skilled archer, inspires hope among his men, and they prepare for the impending confrontation, utilizing their limited arrows and stones as weapons. They devise a plan to ambush the approaching Western Xia soldiers, who are led by the experienced deputy general Ye Li An, known for capturing Han slaves. The chapter ends with the Western Xia soldiers climbing toward the summit, unaware of the trap being set for them.
