The Great Idle Person of the Zhenguan Era.
Chapter 300: Worries of Being Followed. [307]
Summary
Li Su reflected on his meeting with Li Shi Min, the emperor, and how his expression was heavy with emotion. He recalled Li Shi Min's cold and unyielding face and how it reminded him of the true and mighty Tian Ci. Li Su realized that great men are born with hearts of iron and stone, and they can steel themselves to eliminate obstacles, including family members, to achieve their goals. He thought about how Li Shi Min had changed from a ruthless leader to someone who put on a facade of nostalgia and regret. As Li Su exited the palace, he felt an overwhelming urge to release his pent-up emotions and rode his horse wildly towards the city gates. Upon returning home, he found his household peaceful, with his servant, Xue Guan Jia, chattering away as usual. The couple, Li Su and Xu Ming Zhu, had a quiet dinner, and after dinner, Xu Ming Zhu bowed and exited the room. Li Su called out to her, and they had a deep conversation about a matter related to the imperial court that could have significant consequences for their family. Li Su revealed that he might be stripped of his title, demoted, exiled, or imprisoned, but he felt an unavoidable reason to do it for personal justice, conscience, and loyalty. Xu Ming Zhu sniffled and encouraged him to go ahead, risking her life to protect their family's well-being. Li Su gazed deeply at Xu Ming Zhu, realizing for the first time that night the many true facets of his wife. She was lovely, simple, and strong, like a pearl buried deep in the dust, which would radiate an extraordinary light whenever he was willing to uncover it. As he watched Xu Ming Zhu cry, Li Su suddenly smiled, and his wife continued to cry, telling him not to worry about her and to go ahead with his plans.Full content
