Summary

In a foreboding forest, the narrator cautions Xu Lin against venturing deeper, but she insists on continuing. Xu Lin explains the concept of "borrowing a corpse to return a soul," revealing that Old Zhao's spirit is trapped and seeking revenge. They devise a plan to lure Old Zhao out using a special oil lamp, which attracts his wrath. Xu Lin successfully captures Old Zhao's spirit with a black jade flute, but remains cryptic about her methods.
