Chapter 30: The Mass Graveyard. [30]
Summary
In a foreboding forest, the narrator cautions Xu Lin against venturing deeper, but she insists on continuing. They discover a tomb, initially believing it to belong to Old Zhao, but soon realize it may be linked to a vengeful spirit. Xu Lin explains the concept of "borrowing a corpse to return a soul," revealing that Old Zhao's spirit is trapped and seeking revenge. They devise a plan to lure Old Zhao out using a special oil lamp, which attracts his wrath. Xu Lin successfully captures Old Zhao's spirit with a black jade flute, but remains cryptic about her methods. After dealing with the spirit, she warns the narrator about the dangers of the Zhao family, urging him to leave, but he refuses until he uncovers the truth about his grandfather.Full content
