Chapter 296: Oath. [302]
Summary
The chapter centers around a tense conversation between Huo Yan, a member of the Black Fire Tribe, and Lu Chen, a human who has been mistakenly identified as a priest sent by the Fire God. Huo Yan believes Lu Chen is destined to help their tribe, while Lu Chen expresses his reluctance to take on the role of priest due to the dangers and distrust he would face as a human among barbarians. Huo Yan insists on taking Lu Chen to the Fire God’s sacrificial altar, claiming it is a secret holy place. Despite Lu Chen’s skepticism about his supposed divine mission, Huo Yan proposes that he might have a way for Lu Chen to return to the North, which intrigues Lu Chen. After some back and forth, Huo Yan reveals a half-broken wooden tablet that Lu Chen recognizes, leading him to believe Huo Yan's claims. They agree that if Lu Chen helps restore the Black Fire Tribe's strength, Huo Yan will reveal the secret to the path back North. Lu Chen demands that Huo Yan swear the oath in the name of the entire tribe, leading to a confrontation where Huo Yan reacts angrily to the suggestion. The chapter ends with tension between the two characters unresolved.Full content
