Chapter 28: The Siege (2). [256]
Summary
Ning Yi unexpectedly encounters Fang La's bandits in Hangzhou amidst chaos caused by an earthquake. Despite their initial advantage, he believes their reign of terror will be short-lived. Concerned for Taiping Alley, he faces desperate fugitives and decides to confront the bandits. As he navigates through the ruined streets, he is pursued by blood-soaked thugs. Ning Yi, despite being out of place in a scholar's robe, demonstrates confidence and skill with his knife. During a tense chase, he clashes with a faster pursuer, ultimately killing him with a clean strike. After a brief silence, the pursuit resumes, but Ning Yi encounters soldiers, which gives him hope. However, as he attempts to escape, he realizes the danger is still present. He notices a woman and her bodyguard but urges them to run. The situation escalates as more bandits arrive, and Ning Yi feels a sense of foreboding. Eventually, he spots over a hundred soldiers approaching, leading to a moment of relief. Back in Taiping Alley, the chaos has subsided, and although Ning Yi has a minor wound, he continues to assist others in the city. While he cannot save the city entirely, his actions are aimed at protecting his family and those close to him.Full content
