Chapter 271: The Godfather's Ultimate Counterattack. [270]

Summary

In this chapter, the last Godfather of the Sicilian mafia is mortally wounded, pinned to a wall by swords, and desperately tries to convey a warning to Orson about an impending disaster. Before he can finish, an explosion from a severed steel cable devastates the area, but Orson manages to protect his allies, Dirk and Lappland, using his Originium arts. They learn from Mostima that a natural disaster and a swarm of infected creatures are approaching Longmen, putting the city at risk. The Godfather's sabotage of the connection between the slums and Longmen becomes clear to Orson, leading to a sense of urgency. As the group discusses their options, the Godfather, surprising everyone by still being alive despite his gruesome injuries, reveals that these wounds are the result of his Originium arts and his fixation on survival over the last 170 years. He identifies himself as the leader of the long-vanished Fenrir family, recounting the calamity that wiped out his family due to the awakening deities, powerful entities threatening the world. The conversation shifts to the nature of these deities; he insists that they are real and express a desire to eradicate all living beings on Terra. He believes uniting forces is necessary to combat them but has sabotaged Longmen to prevent it from fleeing, indicating that the region is pivotal in countering these threats. As he nears death, he warns Orson of the dire consequences of underestimating the threat posed by the deities, emphasizing that upon awakening, they could lead to unimaginable devastation.
