Summary

The narrative unfolds with Xu Ren, a newly appointed county deputy, who brutally sacrifices an old shaman to a river god, causing fear among the villagers. As the shaman sinks, a giant salamander spirit emerges, threatening the villagers. Fang Yuan, a powerful figure, intervenes, using his enhanced water control to combat the salamander. He defeats it, liberating the trapped souls within its bone beads. Fang Yuan reflects on the nature of deities and the shifting balance of power between humans and demons.
