Summary

In this chapter, Orson finds himself in an uncomfortable and compromising situation during an unexpected encounter with Snow Rabbit and Ch'en Hui-jie. Initially trying to maintain control and summon a skill called The Suspension, Orson is quickly subdued by Snow Rabbit's Originium arts. Both girls become increasingly forward, leading to chaotic and awkward interactions in the cramped back seat of a police SUV. Meanwhile, Talula, concerned that Orson may be in trouble, contemplates his whereabouts; she ultimately reassures herself that Snow Rabbit is with him. A search for the missing Ch'en Hui-jie is initiated by the Longmen Guard Department after an emergency call reveals she has gone missing during a mission. When a patrol officer discovers the SUV parked in a deserted area, suspicions arise, leading them to fear a grim outcome. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the officers are shocked to find not corpses but Ch'en Hui-jie, disheveled and soaked in sweat, along with Orson, who appears confused and battered. Ch'en attempts to downplay the bizarre situation by insisting it was all accidental, despite obvious indications to the contrary, including the effects of a drug that had caused disorientation. Conversations with the medical staff reveal trace drug levels in Ch'en's blood, while evidence of frostbite suggests Orson has been subjected to the effects of extreme cold. Meanwhile, Wei Yanwu, a high-ranking official, arrives to investigate, playfully teasing Ch'en about the situation and providing her with a special communication device to use in future operations, reinforcing his faith in her abilities. The chapter concludes with them returning late to their apartment, where Talula expresses her frustration, suspecting they were up to no good.
