Summary

Mei Lun leaves the Thousand Needle Stone Forest to explore the Ruined Rock Territory, particularly Nagrand, a lush area inhabited by Elemental Giants. He seeks the Elemental Slabs, sacred artifacts that condense the power of deceased giants into Elemental Cores, which enhance strength and are used to craft powerful items. Despite the Elemental Giants' unity and wariness of outsiders, Mei Lun hopes to trade for a chance to observe the slabs and undergo a baptism. With the help of Lu Ni, he connects with the gentle water-element Elder Saint Chris, who invites him to her Water Holy Temple. Upon arrival, Mei Lun meets Chris, who informs him that observing the elemental stone tablet is rare. Mei Lun offers to pay more, leading to an agreement where Chris arranges meetings with the strongest tribes of the four elemental giants. He begins with the water element tribe, where he gains permission to observe the elemental stone slab and undergo baptism. The baptism invokes elemental rules, enhancing innate qualities but comes with risks. Mei Lun's companion, Spike, endures a ten-day baptism, impressing the Water Line Giants. As they move on to the Earth, Wind, and Fire Element tribes, Spike undergoes similar baptisms, each time exceeding expectations. Chris's status as a saint provides Mei Lun and Spike with access to these sacred rituals, but he faces resistance when seeking knowledge from the Fire Element tribe. Chris emphasizes Mei Lun's wealth and generosity to gain their favor.
